Another piece of free advice would be to hook up with a temp agency to get you some income, and make contacts. And ideally (nothings ever ideal) you take a little "cushion" with you, to help you get through the bumps.

Hey Matt,
I am a little bit in your boat with you. Dh and I are leaving in a couple of weeks for Myrtle Beach, SC and perhaps a few other places to feel the job climate. Why Myrtle Beach? We have friends who live there. Work is really bad here in Michigan. We feel as though we are in a sinking boat here. Nothing is improving just getting worse. It is very scary but also can be a bit of an adventure to move to somewhere new. Ask yourself a question: What would be the worse thing that could happen if I moved? If the answers aren't more than you can handle, then go for it. My biggest hold here are my grandkids. I am very close to them. Other than that reason I have nothing to lose. We are putting our house up for sale as soon as we return from our trip. The housing market is down and that could create a problem for us. Funny thing we drove to Vegas with some friends about 25 years ago to look into the job market. Our friends stayed in Vegas and we returned home. They moved back here after 2 years. A lot of people stay in Vegas that is why it is the fastest growing city in America. Maybe someday we will meet in Vegas if you decide to move there. What ever you decide, I wanna wish you good-luck! De
I know exactly how you feel. Frankly, i'm excited & scared. I want a new start in life. Six years ago i had 19,000 clams & was a pretty happy person. But circumstances happen to all of us. The job situation is a tough thing to overcome -- sometimes it even makes my stomach turn inside out going thru job interviews & that whole process. I wish i was able to consider this move back in the 90's. I wont lie--i dont know the streets of LV worth a darn. And for a driving position that's tough. I'm thinking about things that are little to some (big to me)... like my barber ive been going to for 8 years. My fav mex restaurant here in town. Etc. I dont know. I'm just 'up in the air' right now. Things get tough for me & i wish they didnt such as nitemares. Ive even thought of going to the Strat Tower & inventing my own thrill-ride. )o: Well, De - i hope whatever you choose to do, its for the best & makes you happy. My advice is "Dont go gently into that good nite". In 1986 (or so)... when my parents took me to LV... we had dinner at batista's. Then i was free to do what i wanted for the rest of the nite (bally's our hotel was only 1/5 mile away). I walked from BC to Ceasars, then to the Dunes... it felt great. I was 16, i felt alive. It's just that fever. Anyhow, as a sidenote... my parents drove to some friends who had retired from ABC (t.v. network) to their home in LV. My dad also worked for ABC. I recount my dad saying they drove like 6 miles off the strip and swore they were 'in the middle of NOWHERE'. Then my mom said to me that they got 6 acres of land for like $8000. But, that was then, this is now. Heck, de, i dont even know why i'm telling u that story. Sigh. I just dont know what i'll do. Take care, de & keep in touch. matthew |
