Default I phoned the Orleans...

I phoned the Orleans 24 hours ago... and i asked about a room & such. Then i figured i would talk to one of the 'boys' who comp rooms or give you a reduced rate.

I think they are called hosts, but i'm not really sure. Figure what the heck. The most action i have a casino in my last trip was the Orleans (in the way of slots & buy-in at the tables).

When i called the telephone operator transferred me to the 'slots host'... and she said she'd call me back shorlty. 70 minutes later she did & said she couldnt offer me anything. So i called back and the reservations operator got me a "tables host", i guess. Well i guess the phone call went right into the heart of the casino, because i heard background noise that sounded VERY similar to a craps game. I explained to them that i have a BLUE coast card, and i have an Orleans Pit Card. He said, hold on... and transferred me to someone else. Eventually he looked me up......... and ......

me "hello"
him "matthew, give me your card #"
me "xoxoxoxoxo"
him "let's see here, give me a minut while i pull you up on my screen"
him "looks like you play a little roulette with us, and a lot of craps eh?"
me "yes"
him "okay, well at this time what i'm going to do is offer you the rack rate, and i'll get you the reservations operator back on the line"

(((((((((((( uh, i think the rack rate is what every schmo in the world gets, so i have no idea why the guy used that LINGO with me ))))))))))))))))))

.. i paused ..
me "oh okay"
him "yea, what you'll need to do is have us check your plat at the end of your stay next week & we'll see what we can do for you. Basically you'll want to be buying in for at least $200 in chips every session"
me "oh, uh, okay"

So, that was that... i still havent booked the room, but i'm leaning towards GC instead. So, i guess that's how it works. It's not what you gambled in the past. It's what you gambled in the VERY RECENT past to get a room. Only reason i called them was because Orleans used to send out a free-room postcard to me.... and i figured i'd ask... since it was a one niter mid-week. No dice.

Well, there's my story. I know my gambling budget will be very near ZERO this trip. Oh well.

That's reality these days Matt...it basically was his compromise
of telling you "sorry, your play isn't enough".
This 'rack rate' is probably similar to a 'casino rate' which is simply
a bit lower than they offer their average customers...BUT
the way he put it....you'd have to hit a certain amount of play
during your stay to get it. They'd evaluate you when you checked out
and then get the bad news....you'd probably end up paying the standard
room rate they'd tell you if you just called and made a reservation.
Without having much of a history there and having just the standard players club card.....I bet you'd have to drop at least $5,000. before
they'd comp or significantly discount you anything as a new customer.

See what the GOLD COAST says....there's always the cheaper hotels
downtown...lots of folks like
Main Street Station: 1.800.465.0711
Plaza: 1.800.634.6575
El Cortez: 1.800.634.6703

There's still Strip posibilities...Tropicana 1.800.634.4000
Excalibur: 1.800.937.7777
Grant's FAVORITE...Circus Circus: 1.800.634.3450
Another COAST property I'm trying next weekend Barbary Coast 1.888.227.2279

This is a place I saw years ago from someone on one of the boards
who needed a cheap/good place to stay while house hunting. They have
various locations.... this person stayed in one up Flamingo from the
Gold Coast...LOOK AT THIS WEBSITE...read their bio, it could be your
place!

Thx greg... yea ive heard of Ext Stay America... the word on the streets is they use the industries LOWEST AMOUNT of soundproofing out there... otherwise a good value.

I think i'm going to book the GC for fifty clams tomorrow. I'd like to stay a 2nd nite... so i'm considering that as well. We'll see. 1/2 of my budget is dedicated for gasoline... sigh.

I agree what you said about comps. I would be scared to drop a pile of dough and eat a lot of fancy food, then have them say 'we'll comp you $15', lol. Oh well.... no biggie.

mK

Greg--what are your dates? Sounds like we'll miss each other by a few days.

...'scared' has nothing to do with it, it's just stupid. Drop a pile
of dough to get something for free/discounted...? duh!
NOTHING IS FREE IN LAS VEGAS, you're paying for it
one way or another!

I'm flying in Friday morning, see BODIES, PHANTOM that night,
then JUBILEE(backstage tour), STEELY DAN/MICHALE McDONALD Saturday night...stay up,
be at McCarran by 4:30AM/6:30 flt.........sleep when I get home.
Barbary Coast is a pretty neat little place...can walk to all my events,
and I wanted to stay there before Harrahs gets it and 'makes it go away'.

I've stayed at the BC and it is a great location, the rooms are nice, and the hotel is small so it doesn't take you forever to get there. I've always enjoyed playing at the BC and the shuttle to GC and Orleans is right out the door.

MK, please drive carefully.
Greg, have a fun trip.
