Here are some random mental notes....
>---> Gasoline in LV seems to be cheaper than it was in Calif. Right now LV gas is about $2.99 for the MAJOR brands (reg unleaded). >---> People move at a pace all their own. This includes walking, shopping, driving. Myself, i'm driving the speed limit to save fuel. >---> I looked at the Suncoast today as well as the Red Rock Resort. This was just to take a peek & have a lunch. The Red Rock Resort is very very contemporary (almost modern) inside. I spent 40 minutes there just looking around. It reminded me greatly of my old towns' "Thunder Valley" (indian gaming casino). But, a little bit more refined. The layout of the gaming tables is a big continuous circle... the epicenter being a fancy bar. Scattered about were machines (penny to $5), etc, etc. VP was 8/5. I did a walk-thru through the Red Rocks' buffet... i'll have to say it looked good. Sat/Sun it is $16 if i remember correctly for their 8am to 3pm brunch (that's what the lady told me @ the register). I didnt eat there... but things looked good. They were carving Prime Rib. That's one thing i'll say about COAST CASINOS.. often their buffets dont carve BEEF on the buffet (just sausages, or turkey, or ham). It's sort of a hit & miss thing with COAST. Anyhow, the Red Rock buffet had the shrimp n cocktail sauce (i guess that's a staple at ever buffet now). But the shrimp were indeed a bit larger compared to coast. Salad looked good. Desserts looked good. Freshness of food looked good. Six stations set up (the ethnic breakdowns of course). This was a saturday at 9:50am... the buffet was 1/3 full... and no line to get in. Before i left the Red Rock, i looked at their poker room (which is just a section of tables to the side of the casino with railings around it). It sandwhiches a snack-bar & a sportsbook. Of note: their sportsbook has the largest screen ive seen yet. I'd say it's 14 feet wide. This was parlayed with smaller screens. The horse bettors were out in force. Overall, i think the Red Rock is a nice place (though i didnt game or eat there). Roulette was $1 chip ($10 min). Dice was $5. BJ was $10 mostly... you'd have to look for a $5 table. I didnt look to see if it was 6/5. Oh well. If the Red Rock Resort was not butted up against a Freeway, i wouldnt have gone out there... it IS WAY OUT there (@Charleston / 215). From there... i went to check out the Suncoast. I didnt even know where it was, but i called and got directions... drove down to a street called Rampart (or was it Alta?). The Suncoast is another COAST property. Can you see a trend here? I'm a fan of the COAST properties?? Hehehehe. Well, i dont know if love all of them.... but time will tell. Self-Parked & went in. It was a little bit before 11am, and i had a feeling it was going to be a buffet lunch (again) for me. Gosh, i better stop all these buffets. I walked around and there were noticably more kids here than at the average hotel. Mind you----they do have a mega movie theater & bowling. It wasnt as bad as the Orleans, but a higher amount of kids that you'd find at.........say........the GC. Most were behaved, so no big deal really. Plus, this was a saturday. I went to the Suncoast sportsbook and placed a 4-team parlay wager for $3 (NFL games)... and i dont think any of them have began as of yet. As you can see, my gaming is now lessened. I opted for the buffet, as it was now 11:20am... a line of about 30 people found their way to the register. I think it was $8.63. This is slightly more than the price of GC. The Suncoast serves lunch in their buffet from 11am to 3pm (mon - satur). I was glad because i didnt want to pay a BRUNCH PRICE & have them serving eggs benedict & champagne. You know----the type of food----no one likes!!! LOL. Stir-fry (sweet n sour pork) -- not bad. Taquitos -- good. Chile Colorado -- very good. (i did a 'wrap' in a tortilla). Pizza slices -- fair. Salad bar looked good & fresh... but instead of my usual 'caesar' that i like......... fresh cut cantaloup -- Outstanding. fresh cut watermelon -- very good. ambrosia salad -- fair. Orange juice -- bad, really Bad. Service was 'okay' - i left 75 cents for the tip. Like i said in my last POST ... i think i'm just spoiled by the GC buffet because it's NEW, clean, bright, comfortable, and their food is great all-around. Heck, i usually get a good parking spot @ the GC. I bought in at the Dice Table for $4. I was at a high of $22, then back down to $14, i cashed in the chips. I put $3 into a 9/6 vp machine (5cent/10cent/25cent variet)...i chose 10 cent on the screen. Worked the $3 into $6, cashed the ticket. I left the Suncoast. From there... i left... and made my way down Charleston. >--> Passed a "Claim Jumper" restaurant. My mom loved that place while we were in Calif. Sigh. >--> Went to the Gamblers General Store (main street) downtown. It was crowded. I looked for some decks of cards for the Westward Ho (was going to send one to my friend Steve back in calif)... they didnt have any. They had some NICE roulette wheels-----the REAL THING----mahogany wood & all. But, you needed $3000 for em, lol. Lot's of interesting things to look at & buy in there. My gosh, there's more chips here than @ Frito Lay!!! >--> Next, it was onto Cashman Field (this is where they play AAA minor league baseball) to take a look. I know they werent playing, but i just drove around the parking lot for 3 minutes... couldnt see much. Oh well. >--> Drove back to Henderson. That's about it. Burned three gallons of gas. But at least i have a slightly better idea of some streets. mK |
