Default misterKeno Update (( aug 27, 06 ))

Hello fellow hype members...

I hope all of you are doing good & your weekend was a good one.

I'll give a quick rundown of my week & what-not.

Also, if any of you are getting tired of this stuff... just let me know & i'll try not to chime in so often regarding my local life & happenings. Dont want to make anyone irritated.

Work... well, i worked 10 hours each day (mon to fri), so each day i was pretty tired. There is a show going on (i believe at this moment) called MAGIC. It's a convention for clothing retailers. It's a big show. I know this because this last week we did some last minute things for the show. Including: signage, booth material, and floor-markers. I cant tell you how long i worked on floor markers. A floor marker is just a square foot decal that is affixed to the ground --- it mentions a booth # or an aisle #. People walk over them (i'm told).

I dont get to go to any of the conventions, but i work at a jumbo warehouse that does the 'set-ups' for them. Furthermore, the general public is not invited to a lot of conventions. They are for retailers. A couple of people from my work did go in person (preceding the opening) to do some touch up work there. But, of course, they have been working at the company longer than myself.

My vehicle has not yet been repaired - been playing phone tag with the other parties insurance adjuster.

Food.....

Most of my food has been ordinary... we're talking food from home or just a cheap fast food item. Even vending machine food at work. But, i did splurge a few times:

thurs nite--> South Coast buffet
today--> E.I. $4.95 steak special

Both were good. Of note.. i tried getting into Ellis Island on tuesday night... at 8pm the wait was 90 minutes, i just went home.

Gaming / entertainment.....

Not much to report here, but i'll give a rundown. Today (sunday) i went to Red Rock Canyon. If you get on Charleston and just keep GOING n GOING... even past the R-R-Resort... you'll eventually come to the canyon. It's $5 a car.. and it's a nice little drive. I didnt remember my camera, but there are a handful of impressive rock formations. The rocks according to the brochure turn red due to a certain amount of certain metals in them thruout time. They have a welcome center (etc) that's simple, but still good.

The amount of cars in there was minimal. They have at least 15 'areas' where you can pull off and do your pictures & stretch your feet etc. Many of them were also trailheads for hiking. They have some hikes that are a mile long to fourteen miles long.

Temperature here was about 102 today... i'm glad i made it to Red Rock Canyon by noon time... so it was about 90 at that time.

As for gambling... it was some VP at the GC... $4 worth... i got up to $7 and then down to $0.

My other gambling was at the SOUTHCOAST... bought in for $17 at the dice table -- got to around $80, then down to $6. That was a bummer.

Ellis Island has the Star Wars slots... so i put in a few bucks just for the heck of it. These slots are T I G H T. I got zilch. Oh well.

I'm beginning to understand some more side streets. Well, heck, i call Maryland Parkway a SIDE STREET ?!?!? lmao

... but ... i can make my way around town pretty well now.

That's all for now.

Matthew
Sounds like you had a busy week. I know those ten hour days are rough but the paycheck will look real good. Sounds like you're getting around very well. I always thought Vegas was pretty easy to navigate (without the traffic). Easy layout for streets.
Red Rock Canyon is a nice get away. As you said some awesome rock formations. When the weather cools a bit you will probably enjoy getting around and checking out the sights. I always go out to Nellis AFB when I'm out there, and if I'm lucky the Thunderbirds are practicing.
Hope you get the truck situation settled soon. Phone tag can be a pain..LOL
Thanks for keeping us updated on your adventure. I like to read of your explorations. Now the food??? You need to hit a grocery store....those vending machines are the pits. LOL
Have a good week!

Glad to hear things are going good for you. Red Rock Canyon is fantastic. Have been there twice. Did a bit of hiking and just enjoyed watching some of the rock climbers.

Granny... yeah, i liked Red Rock Canyon ... was a bit ho-hum going alone. But oh well. It's pretty nice out there. Next time i'll bring a camera.

Greg... heya!! Yeah, i'm looking forward to the handshake and good eatin friend.

Jean... yes, i'm doing my best to eat better. My theme has usually been

breakfast: nothing, or maybe a muffin
lunch: vending machine or peanut butter sandwhich from home
dinner: a drive thru snack or hit a COAST property & eat like a king

Oh, the red rock canyon is $20 for 1 year. Or, $5 for the day... so i may get the year deal one day. Then i can drive guests thru it? Who knows.

Maryland pkwy isn't such a bad route, I've gone up and down that on the bus.(109) Red rock sounds neat, one of these days I should go somewhere in LV that doesn't deal cards...

Been out to Lake Las Vegas yet?

Doc al .... nope havent made it out there yet. But, i'm sure one day i will. I hear ya my friend -- things that dont require chips & markers are a novelty in this town. I'm hoping to get by bellagio in the next few weeks... i've always been a fan of the conservatory.

Greg ... you crack me up!!!

Thanks for the update! Those long hours at work will keep you out of trouble. It's nice that you are learning your way around the area. Hope you get your vehicle fixed soon. I'm sure you and Greg will enjoy that Rio buffet!
