Default ... update from mK (sept 11, 2006)

Hi everyone. It's misterKeno... and it's monday afternoon. Normally i would be typing my update at night or on the weekend (etc, etc). But, my work schedule has changed recently. So recently that when i went into work today -- they said "you have mondays & sundays off now".

I.E. a schedule change was made during the weekend & no one told me.

I'll do a quick 'run' thru my week & such... feel free to comment, laugh, or let me know what parts are just boring to you.

Work: Well, work is 'work'. This last week i got in 4 ten hour days. Mon was a holiday n such. Since i'm a temp - i am doubtful that i'll be getting any sort of holiday pay. The workflow seems to be lessening. This was evident as i went into work today for 4 minutes ..... and ..... and saw the folks my shift muttering about N such. I talked over stuff with my supervisor about the schedule & my vehicle being repaired (eventually, lol). He said 'no problem, just tell us what days or hours you need off'. That's all and well. But, he went on to say that there's a slight chance that the shifts may go to 8 hours (instead of 10). That would be a nice break on the human body i tell ya. But, i guess i would miss the OT pay.

Gambling (etc): I did my fair share i'd say over fri/sat/sun. On saturday morning i went to FIESTA Henderson. That's a resort basically where the 215 comes to an end & you either get on Lake Mead Pkwy, or you board the 95 & go towards downtown.

The FIESTA Henderson is certainly a locals place from the looks of it. I was able to park in the parking garage VERY close to the elevators. This, again, would be the case Sunday when i returned. It never really got crowded saturday, but a noticable larger crowd was in there for the Sun football games. Of note, i got wiped out on my wager for the Packers/Bears to go over 35. I had a lot of confidence in that wager that i even had two wagers across town for the SAME bet. Sigh.

The FIESTA Henderson isnt anything luxurious, but it's well lit. It's very clean. And, just something about being 'simple' is nice. The gaming i did there was an Atl Braves game (which i won). I bet the run-line. Then, it was roulette. I had a really great session. The wheel was 50-cent chips. And, folks, that's hard to find on the strip... and even off strip. I bought in for $40... and in about 35 minutes i had nearly ALL of my color in chips. Drinks were offered about every ten minutes. Cathy, a nice waitress, brought me my amaretto sour & then a second one. That was my limit (as i was a local & didnt wanna get nutzo on the liquor). Ironically, she was on the day-shift again Sunday & remembered me.

Sunday i did okay with my roulette buy in as well... i soon got all of my color AGAIN. And i have to tell you--that's a pretty good feat (spell?). Considering, my buy in was for about 1/2 of the total for my 'color'. I'll admit i got a bit greedy towards the end on Sunday & was not able to take care of business as i had hoped.

I did the saturday lunch buffet @ the FIESTA Henderson. I did my walk-thru before hand. A few things on the Mexican station looked to be fairly good... and they had REAL mashed taters (red skin variety). The true test of a buffet, lmao!! It was $11 if i remember correctly, maybe $12. This may have been because weekends they do a brunch from breakfast --> straight thru --> til mid afternoon? Many breakfast items were avail there. Oh, i saw mount everest (it was made of bacon) serving bin. The crepes & blintzes were pretty good.

I also visited another casino for the first time... the BOULDER STATION. It's right off the 95 freeway, so not all that bad if you're driving. There was a wide wide mix of folks there on saturday night. Everyone from suits to down on their luck locals & tourists. They had some country music going on in their nightclub as well as the lounge out on the floor. Spirits were pretty good. I had my best dice session since moving to town.... buying in for $70 & leaving with $400. Not too shabby.

Oh, i got the boxman to yell at me for talking on my celphone @ the dice table. How cooool is that !! Well, he didnt yell... he just said 'no phones' with a 1/2 smirk. But the smirk was just big enough to let me know he was Serious about what he said.

My feelings about BOULDER STATION are mixed. It seems somewhat cramped in there. But, maybe it was just me. Of note.. they have 10x on craps. And, that's a very good thing for dice players.

I didnt get out of the BOULDER STATION til like 1:30am... but, oh well. It was saturday afterall.

I decided that i had better go eat .. as i had not eaten in about 11 hours. I made my way along Paradise Rd, then hung a couple of turns & landed @ ELLIS Island. I have to tell you... at a quarter til two in the morning, the Restaurant was 85% full. Amazing. But, the place is great for food. For my first time ever, i ordered something besides the $4.95 steak special. I opted for the philly french dip. This was a great sandwhich. Was piled high enough to satisfy any carnivore!! Melted cheese, peppers, the works. And of course steak fries. For $6... i couldnt go wrong. So, for $8.50 (meal, drink, tax, tip)... i was stuffed & made my way h h h
uh home.

Well, i didnt go home first. I felt i had a burst of energy in me (well, sort of... ). I drove to the GOLD COAST for some dice. No dice.

Now, that's not to say they didnt have dice table open.... that's to say i did poorly @ Craps while there. Gave back half of my Boulder Station winnings. Well, time to go home. And, so i did.

Sunday, was a somewhat of a lazy day for me. I only slept for 5 hours & i was up at 7am for noooo reason. My alarm didnt go off folks, i just woke up. I was plenty groggy -- so i just layed around til mid-day. Then went out and got a friend a gift for her birthday & did some shopping at the galleria. Found a shirt for myself.... a $44 shirt.... marked down on clearance for $9.

(as stated earlier).. i went back to FIESTA Henderson for the 2nd round of roulette. Otherwise, i moved on to SUNSET STATION to hang out for a bit, i got my rear kicked at the tables as well as their VP. The VP is pretty bad @ the SUNSET STATION.

Today (monday) .. like i said i went into work when i didnt need to. So, i drove to the GOLD COAST & got myself an NFL ticket tonite. I chose Minn. to beat the Redskins on a money-line wager. I'll cross my fingers on that one. Otherwise, i did a good amount of VP. It went something like this:

$5 cash in ---> $12 tito out
$5 cash in ---> $23 tito out
$10 cash in ---> $18 tito out

I didnt bring a lot of dough with me to the GOLD COAST this morning, just wanted to hang out for an hour then go. But the VP was great. It was 25-cent FULL PAY vp. I've gotta say, that may have been my best luck of the last week (other than the Boulder Dice).

Well, before long i was at the Keno Lounge... and did a few "way" tickets. Won one, lost four. Not a big win.. just a couple of bucks. Oh well.

Lunch was about to be served at the buffet their, so i opted for it. $8.03... and seated immediately. Everything was good as usual. My appetite wasnt especially strong... but i've got to tell you... the Mongolian Beef was outstanding. From a scale of 1 to 10... i'd give it a 27. Probably the best ive had in my life.

Not much more to report. I'll have to say i'm finding my way around town a lot easier now. I dont look at my fold up map much anymore. And, that's a good thing -- especially while driving 40mph. LOL.

Weather here has been 95 to 99.. which is a tad better than the 101 we've been having. Some evening breezes also. Gasoline can be 'had' for $2.82 for regular... so it's slooowly coming down. I have a friend in Ohio... she said it's $2.13 there -- i fell out of my chair when she told me that.

Well, it's 9/11 -- so r.i.p. to all of those... well you know.

I've been out to Boulder Station, it's ok, not great, but the table limits are low without it being a dump.

Hope things work out with your truck.

I for one am enjoying your adventures in the land of VEGAS. Keep them coming. It's been interesting reading about your learning your way around and what you think about some of the out laying casinos.
Glad to hear you had a couple wins.
The more you talk about Ellis Island the more I have to go there in Dec. Have talked about going there our last 4 visits.

Hiya Doc Al... my truck finally has an appt for repair. So, in the next week or 2 i'll be In N Out & get that out of my hair. The Boulder Station isnt really 'bad' ... it's just 'eh' i dunno. It has it's share of kids near the arcades and "funland" whatever it's called. The staff is pretty good... i guess if you're looking for a waitress that looks like a Perfect 10 MODEL, you wont find one. I guess i'll stop by again one day soon. Who knows.

Speaking of which... each time i go into a place, i end up getting a ticket (of some sort) from the Sports Book. I dont stay to watch the FULL GAME... so, a return trip is sometimes needed. Thusly, i guess it gives me a reason to make THE ROUNDS!! lol

Hello Greg... no bowling team for me yet. The leagues are for the most part 2 weeks old. You can always join up at this juncture... but, i'm kind of taking care of WORK first. If my hours change (etc etc), it would be hard to juggle a league along with it. But, i'm aiming to bowl for my own leisure @ a COAST place soon. I figure ten bucks can last me an hour bowling... a bargain compared to other

p u r s u i t s in this town!!

Granny, very good to hear from ya. Yes, i try to check in now & then.. and give a little report of what i've seen / experienced. Yep, the ELLIS ISLAND is a gem. Each time when i drive in -- i notice a good handful of taxis parked there. Indeed - it's a local joint!!!! Their restaurant can be hit & miss for certain things like being waited on... or just waiting for your food, or getting a drink re-filled. You wont find any of the waitresses standing around making small-talk. They're hustling as best they can. But, the food makes up for it. It's what i like to call hearty diner type food. Very very good & nice portions.

That's good that you are getting your truck fixed. Sounds like you are learning your way around town. Hope the job continues to go well and you get some overtime pay occasionally.
