Default The New Frontier

I will be coming to Vegas mid October. I heard the Frontier is closing, and would like to gamble there one last time. My question is-when a casino is closing, can they tighten up their machines so they don't pay off like they normally would? Thanks to all for answering my other questions. Thanks in advance.

Tightening the machines in a casino 'teko' is pretty much a myth.
Yeah, it can be done, but it involves changing out the 'Chip' to a
tighter one, requires representitives from the Navada State Gaming
Control board, representitives from the casino, not to mention, during
the time they're making the change, THE HOUSE ISN'T MAKIN' ANY MONEY
It isn't in the best interest of the casino to do that.

They request what sort of chips they want installed when they order
their machines....then place the loose, med, and tight machines where
they want on the floor.
You want to visit the Frontier...go for it.

Of course you should go for it -- at least you can say you did it!! You may be here in time to catch the Stardust before it's closure. We'll have to see. Last i heard... it (Stardust) will close at the end of Oct.

The chip (i believe it is called an Emprom) can be altered without it's removal from the machine. But, it's a time consuming ordeal to change the payout frequency on a thousand machines. Furthermore, i dont think the Frontier wants to 'stick it' to folks just because they're going out of business.

Just at the New Front this weekend. At the bar they have some old slot machines that only use quarters. The screens are fuzzy. No bills. You buy the quarters from the bar tender. Old school.

Default Don't Worry About It

First, the chip is the RNG which stands for "Random Number Generator". It is an EPROM which means "Eraseable / Programable Read Only Memory". They can't just go in and change the payback percentage without special equipment and programming knowledge. Even then, it would be illegal. They have to work with the machine's manufacturer to replace or reprogram the chip and they also have to file it with the gaming commission. If they were to secretly change the chip, they could lose their license and be open to legal action both by the state and by patrons. Even though they're shutting down, the owners don't want to get into trouble. If they were busted for changing RNG's, they'd probably never get another gaming license which means they'd be out of the industry forever. So, don't worry about it. Go play at the Frontier, have a great time and enjoy the memory.

New Frontier has been rumored to be closing for years. IMO, it'll be there next time as well - but when it does go I think they'll announce and shutdown pretty quick, so maybe not a bad plan to stop by. Go take a look at the pool area - not Mandalay, but nice in an old-school way.
