Short trip/shorter TR...
I arrived at the BARBARY COAST at 8:30AM Friday morning, and got a room right after lunch. They gave me 'almost' a corner room, 3d floor overlooking BALLYS marquee and BELLAGIO's Foutains. When I decided I was going to the STEELY DAN concert, my first choice for a weekend hotel was the GOLD COAST over the RIO, but they were close to $200. per night so I chose the BC for the 1st time at $119. and would walk to the Show at PLANETALADDIN (still a very big construction mess on the inside) The rooms are very similar to their sister property GC (GC is better I think) The staff is great and their Victorian Room Cafe more than accomodating! Bed was so-so, bathroom is GOLD COAST dinky, and the new plasma TV's real nice! I still haven't seen a plasma TV in Vegas yet with propperly adjusted color...they're all so hot...looks wrong! STEELY DAN were GREAT! The sound mix, the voices, the band, the simple stage set.....everything was very impressive. I hope they don't take another 17 year vacation and remind me NEVER to go to Vegas in July again when it's 110-112 degrees unless John Lennon has risen from the ashes and is performing again... IT WAS MISRIBLE! GAMING: There wasn't much time for gaming...I played some slots, JOB, Bonus, DoubleBonus, quarters and dollars depending on where I was... ...ALL VERY UNEVENTFUL, lost at everything I touched this quick trip. I put some thoughts under Shows/Entertainment for PHANTOM, BODIES, and JUBILEE BACKSTAGE TOUR. ...not much of a report huh, real trip coming up in early September. |

Well, greg, my friend... looks like you got done what you intended to. Your usual theme of EVENING shows.. sleeping in.. and relaxing with some periodic VP. I know the heat was bad. I think it was 110 the day i left... and the jumbo thermometer out in Baker was 117 when i drove by at 2pm last week.
Hang in there -- you'll have another trip before long. Those flat screen plasmas are cool... but the only place ive seen one is at Best Buy .. lol .. so i figure those turkeys know how to tune em just right. The t.v. we had at the STARDUST sucked !!!!!!!!!!! LOL. I hate the way that all the t.v.'s in hotels are 'set'. If you have it at a low volume & turn it off. Then turn it back on ... The volume is suddenly HIGH. It's a mess if you're trying not to wake someone else. Oh well. When i drove by the aladdin (twice actually) it looked like it was back to it's off-white color instead of that blue-crap. Maybe that was for its billboard pasted on stuff? So, tell me -- cause i've always wanted to know -- WAS THERE NOISE OUTSIDE YOUR ROOM? I've heard differing stories for folks facing the bally's marquee---it's bright & plays music. Then, not to mention car-traffic just outside your window? Greg----------any luck at the JUMBO w.o.f. @ the bc?? I didnt go in there this last trip just asking. mK

The BC is a great location. I've stayed there and would stay there again if the price is good. I'm glad you can go to Vegas often so that you can report back to us. Sorry the gambling wasn't good on this trip, but you got to see some good shows. Hope your next trip is a winner.

Walking back from the BODIES exibition at the Trop, I noticed
one side of PlanetAladdin painted the bright BLUE...that was it. It's still a total mess on the inside. Yeah Matt, my room on the Ballys side of the BC is real loud! Over at the RIO you don't hear anything except the freight trains LOL! Police cars, emergency vehicles, drunk tourists...all comes right up through the windows! Noise doesn't bother me, I can sleep through anything but I was still amazed how much drifted into the room. They say if you ask for a room on the Flamingo side, it's much quieter. The Ballys marquee has the JUBILEE add up and theres no sound with it. What I also heard through out the late afternoon and into the night, was the BOOM! from the big bursts of water shot off in Bellagio's fountain Show....and the GIANT/SUPER/WOF, well............................. Well I'm back, and I played, AND I LOST, LOL! SURPRISE-SURPRISE I watched off and on the first day to see if any seat was hitting the SPINS more than others...station 1 and 9 were the consistent winners, and 1 seemed to have the edge so......late Friday night the machine was pretty empty and I played. $100. IN, played MAX/MAX...that means for lines, I chose the 40+ which lets you be eligible for the progressive and chose MAX pennies...I just hit 'Play Maximum' each time, four bucks. I hit credits alot, but only 1 SPIN and landed on 2400x. The session lasted around 15min. and I put it all back in. ....put in another hundred. Station 1 hits alot of credits to keep you playing, and when I was watching earlier had several good SPINS for the person playing, but it wasn't my time...lost the second hundred real fast with no SPINS. Now loosing is never as fun as winning, and I planned on loosing that $200. BUT, what haunted me throughout the night was I'd forgotten to put in my COAST PLAYERS CARD during that first session.....lost out on 40 points for future point totals! THAT WAS TOUGH. I don't play much at COAST but figured if Harrahs was going to trade BARBARY COAST for RIO, I'd start building up a points history...LOL!...very unrealistic, but seemed fun at the time. The staff at BC had heard all the rumors and were quite philosophical about the whole thing... All they'd heard was a cash deal was more favorable than a trade, they expected the property to be sold at some point and until then...business as usuall. I put another $200. in on Saturday (with my card), and lost again...too bad/so sad. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Greg
Another good trip report. Short but sweet this time..lol I stayed at BC for many years. Can't beat location which was important to me. Small easy to check in and they were always very accomadating. I would imagine the rooms are showing wear now that they are selling. Seems to be the trend no improvements for quite some time. I learned early on to always ask for Flamingo side...lol Thanks for sharing. |
