Default Trip to Tunica, MS

Just returned from a gambling trip to Tunica, MS. I know it's not Vegas, but it's gambling.

Met several friends there, some were driving others were flying in. The weather held and we all got there on schedule.

Stayed the first night at the GoldStrike. It being a Sat. night it was very crowded. Couldn't get near a table. Played some VP and Video BJ. Pay tables were mixed, lots of 8/5 of course the 9/6 were full. I didn't play long on the BJ...no double down, no splits....talk about robbery.

We had a special dinner at the Ceasars Sheraton (being changed over to who else McHarrah's) The steak house there Louie's is wonderful. We were given the royal treatment, Chef Carter out did himself. Everything was a culinary delight.

Back to the Goldstrike and none of the machines would play nice with me. I did finally find a Blazing 7's that I could hit the red sevens on couple times.

Next day four of us move to Fitzgerald's Hotel and Casino. I was pleasantly surprised at the how nice the rooms were. I have been staying at the Sheraton for several years, so this was my first time at Fitz's. Nice thing about the Fitz is they have better VP. Had some great sessions at the craps table. One night about midnight we ran into an old friend who is a dealer at another casino there. He jumped in and Wow!!! had one of those hot rolls you wait around for a long time....LOL Cashed out healthy that night.

One night a group of us go to see the Christmas on Broadway Show with the Rocketts at the GoldStrike. Nice show, I was impressed with the theater, nice size for this area. I don't know what I expected but I was impressed never the less.

So this was a trip of lots of laughs, fun with a great bunch of friends. I didn't have much luck at the machines, just some play time. Colored out positive on every table session. So that was the highlight of the gambling.

I make about 3 trips a year to MS, but I'm still thinking of a Spring trip to Vegas.

Jean sounds like a great trip. Meeting up with friends and winning a bit of cash. Plus your dinner sounds like it was a special night for you all.
Stayed a few years back at the Fitz and liked the place. Never did get to any of the other casinos there.
Glad you had such a good time.

Great report!

That is strange about the BJ, usually non Vegas locations have better player friendly blakjack.

Hopefully I can make a trip to Tunica in the next couple years.

Thanks Granny. Tunica is the closest venue for gambling that has the feel of a real casino. The boats around here have disappointed me lately for the high table limits. I guess I'm not smart enough to understand the logic of empty tables with $25 minimuns and up.

I was very pleased with Fitz's rooms, I would stay there again.

Grant...I think you would like Tunica. The casinos are large and every venue of gambling available except sport book. The only live Keno is at Sam's Town.
As for the BJ this is a recent thing and IMO I think it's a result of less competition with Biloxi casinos down. Hopefully these changes will disappear when the Biloxi casinos return. Comps were still fair, I heard some complaints that they were tighting up on them. But again I think it's the lack of competition. Many, many of the employees from the Biloxi area casinos are working there now. Good feeling to know they were being taken care of by the casinos. With the higher numbers of gamblers flowing in, good dealers available was a good thing.

Good to hear some Biloxi people are getting jobs in Tunica.

I have wanted to go Tunica for years, just haven't had the opportunity. I read somewhere that most people fly into Memphis and then it is only a 30 minute drive or so. Is that true?

Gotta check if Soutwest flys to Memphis.

You were right that it is a 30 minute drive from the airport in Memphis. Tunica just opened a new airport and they are getting junket flights in there now. Maybe we will see more services offered from some other airlines like southwest soon. Most of my friends that fly in on Southwest go to Nashville and it's a 3 1/2 hr drive from there.

Never know you might make it some day Grant.
