Do you remember the canned stuff that kind of looked like ham that was popular in the 60s? I vaguely remember my mother serving us Spam when I was a kid. I never liked it. Yuck! It is still popular in Hawaii though.

Spam was very popular in the late 40's and 50's. Spam was a product developed for the troops in WWII. By the time the Korean War was over you didn't dare offer SPAM to any solider that had just returned from overseas...LOL Same thing with SOS...LOL
Just a little trivia. |

just to let you all know there is a SPAM musuem in Minn that we visited last year. Cant remember the name of the town but its where they process and can the spam. We drove 2 hours out of our way to see it. We called it our scenic road trip, also on that trip we went to MT Hoerb in Wi to see the Mustard museum. Now dont tell me I dont live wild life.
Its some of the funny stuff you do when camping. |

I believe the Hormel plant (and SPAM museum) is in Austin MN. in that area, anyway.
I didn't grow up eating the stuff but my wife did. Fried, or ground up with onions and cheese. I've had that, not horrible, but once a year is plenty. For an office party we made the United states of Spam. Cheated a bit on the east coast by grouping some states. |
