Default Mexico - ever been?

Took a little jaunt to the "Riviera Maya" (Playa del Carmen, near Cancun) a couple weeks ago. Had a real nice time on the beaches. Language wasn't anywhere near the barrier I thought it would be, although I did try to learn a little Spanish before I went.

Anybody else vacationed south of the border?

Never been Doc...sounds great and lots of folks from
work love it down there.
Boring as it may be, hopping over to Vegas scratches my itch.

I have been to Cancun 3 times.

Very beautiful and a lot of fun, but very Amercanized. Yeah, language was not a problem at all. I can understand a little Spanish which helps some. The water is amazing, bright blue.

Where did you stay?

Stayed at an all-inclusive called Gran Porto Real. Very nice rooms, excellent location, right on the beach and also close to "fifth avenue", the tourist zone full of shops and restaurants. Although I'm told Playa is a lot less touristy than Cancun.

Some pics on webshots, here:

Nope. Not even my wife did, who seems more susceptible to that stuff than I. Although, I only drank bottled water, and even used that when toothbrushing (including to rinse the toothbrush). Then again, I made frequent use of a mild disinfectant (ethyl alcohol).
