Last minute Trip, first night trip report (my first royal!)
Well, as some of you know I took a total spur of the moment trip to Vegas yesterday on about 3 hours notice after pondering it a few hours longer then that.
Meeting up with a friend here (who I’ve yet to see by the way, he went to bed about the time I arrived on the America West redeye last night). I didn’t have a hotel (could’ve crashed with him), I instead stayed up until 9:30 a.m. and at the end checked into the Orleans for $35 a night for Tue. Wed. Thurs.)
I buried the lead, I hit my first ever royal flush last night. What an awesome feeling! I’ve been playing VP for 18 years (2 years pretty intense, I used to live in Reno and played every blue moon).
It was on 25-cent DDB, at the Palms, the 100% machines right as you walk in by the sportsbook. I was dealt 3 to the royal in spades, then drew the other two and whooped it up. The machine locked up and I had to stare at it awhile.
The Palms was having problems and still is. Their computers are down they say and so the ticket in, ticket out isn’t working on very many machines. For insance, previous to the Royal, I put $100 in a machine around the corner, played it to $61.25, decided to change out and handpay celebration music came on. It took forever to get my $61, the floor lady apologized saying she’s overwhelmed as everytime someone cashes out she has to do a handpay. So I go around the corner, put in the $60 and hit the royal at $40.
Needless to say, it was a mere seconds until a security guard and a floor person were there. She paid, the last $100 in 20’s, I’m guessing for a tip (I gave here $20 kind of wishing it was ticket in, ticket out but you know, she was working hard and having a bad day and it wasn’t ticket in, ticket out this day).
I played off the $40 while a local two machines down told me the whole history of the bank of machines I was playing. He said he was on a tear on the $2 and $5 machines, or had one recently and was up big on this run but said he was cold that morning so moved to quarters.
I then went and played $2-$4 hold em’, bought in for $60, had that up to $120 and then lost a couple of tough hands playing stupid too (finished third with a fullhouse but the signs were there) and cashed out $29.
Then I hit the $1 machines for $200 in play just to see if it was going to be a really good morning (which it already was). I didn’t hit anything.
So, I arrived in LV at about 11 p.m., got a rental car for the first day until I had a hotel room (had booked Orleans at $35 a night, the matched traverlworm’s price for Tues. Wed. and Thur). Knew I had a long night ahead of me…Called my friend(s) and they were at Westward Ho, drinking margaritas headed back to their room (they had been up 28 hours).
So I knew I had all night to kill. I parked at Barbary Coast, went to IP and played $2-$4 poker and won $40 in about 3 hours…then hit $20 win on MIB new machine (got bonus round 2nd spin). Then I tried 1cent Blazing 7’s…lost $10. Then I went to Flamingo, tried my favorite Double Diamond with Cheese and got bonus round, hit one spin, then collect (5 coins). Worst ever. That ate about $80 fast, so I got out of there none too soon. Went to Barbary Coast, tried 1-cent VP (going to be long night), got impatient and started betting Max, whatever that is (like $1, might as well play quarters) and lost $20. Then moved to the 1-cent Double Diamond machine, put in $20…was down to last spin, played 9 lines and 15 coins (20 is max but i was below being able to do that this spin) and hit free spin bonus. Hit something that gave me $143 on that. Got machine up to $200, cashed out at $181.50. Later put back about $80 in that machine hours later as it went to vaccum mode on me and I refused to listen.
About then it was 4 am or so? I was getting tired, so went over to Palms to play 25 cent DDB, put in $20 in my favorite machine (hit 4 aces with kicker on it over New Year’s trip). Gave me lots of play but eventually lost $40. Went around corner and dropped another $20. Dropped $20 quickly on Wanna be a redneck, Foxworth penny machine. Machine hopped to $1 machines, dropped $100 fast. Then about 6 a.m. went back over to the bank in front of the sportsbook and hit the Royal for $1000 in spades about 7 a.m. or so!!!!!!
What a great night. Orleans let me check in at 9:30. I was starving but too tired to eat…so went to bed. Didn’t sleep well, kind of juiced up and exhausted at same time (up 31 straight hours at this point, now I knew how my friends felt last night, I was pooped).
Finally fell asleep and woke up at 5 p.m. to cell phone ringing. Friends are at Titanic exhibit, going to meet up around 9 p.m., go to comedy show and take it from there I think.
I might go eat at Aladdin dinner buffet (i’m starving) to celebrate, or might just go downstairs and eat here at Orleans or maybe go to Paris. Who knows, that’s what makes Vegas so great.
I’ve got 3 more days here, I”m going to try to take their money home with me but 3 days is a long time. I’m up about $700 so far. 3 nights at $35 here at Orleans (and paid $10 for high speet net access today to do this report). I do have a dollar car but will drop that off tonight or tomorrow now that I’m settled and can use shuttles etc.
Weather he is overcast and wonderful unless you came for the sun (I’m from southern NM, get enough sun, this is great). I don’t think the sun came out all day behnd dark thunderclouds but who knows what was happening when I was sleeping. I have a pool view and did hear activity down at the pool.
Well that’s my 24 hour trip report..I’ll complete this on my return (unless I can’t hold off) but had to share my first royal (spades, did I mention that hahaha). What a great feeling. Glad to get that first, I was really starting to get a complex.
