Trip Report: Monte Carlo stay
Wednesday, July 27th, 2005Monte Carlo sent me an invitation to their “Picnic†promotion. It was just a drawing for a chance to win top prize of $5,000, out of a total of $50,000, give away. I received one drawing ticket, and could earn more tickets by playing slots or video poker, one ticket earned for every 200 points. Three free nights and a banquet on Saturday. I talked my wife, who is not a big Vegas fan, into going with me. I had free air with my Southwest coupon, and she flew on my companion pass. So free room, free air, and a no-obligation chance to win some cash. Pretty much a no brainer.
We got there on Friday at noon. Used Dollar for our rent car. I am Fast Lane member, but I changed credit cards, and forgot to change the information on line, so I had to go into the building when we got to the lot. This caused a long delay, as they were busy, and there was a line of people waiting for them to bring cars around. We were “upgraded†to a mini van, just because the frazzled attendant didn’t know what to do with it when the other guy brought it around and there were no takers for it. Lesson learned; be sure your Fast Lane, or Quicksilver, or whatever the program is called at your car place, information is current before you go out there.
Went right over to Monte Carlo to check-in, concerned because the promo material said check in Thursday. Of course they want you there as long as possible. It was no problem with the Friday check-in though.
They had given me a room on the concierge floor. It was nice. I think the bed coverings were fancier then the regular rooms I have stayed in there. They also had a big flower arrangement by the window. The lounge with the free snacks and drinks was nice too. Have to admit we got a little thrill when we got in the elevator and had to use our room key to access our floor too. “Look at me, a high roller. You can’t go where I can go, nanny nanny boo boo!†They also had a newspaper by the door both mornings. I don’t know if I would pay $20 more per night for that floor, but it was nice. (more…)
